Drum practice rooms for Planet drum students
Free off-peak slots every month plus extra hours at standard rates, exclusively for our students. Full drum kits in every room, in our Islington studio.
Practising at home is, for most Londoners, not realistic, especially on drums. Our practice rooms in Islington solve that: fully equipped, sound-treated, and available to all our students as part of their monthly membership. Every membership includes at least one free off-peak slot per month, and you can book additional time at standard practice-room rates. Practice rooms are reserved for Planet drum students only.
What's in our practice rooms
When you book a practice room, you get the room and a full drum kit:
- A full acoustic drum kit (kick, snare, three toms, hi-hats, two crashes, ride)
- Quality Zildjian cymbals
- Drum stool, music stand
- Sound-treated walls: your neighbours upstairs in the church don't hear you, and you don't hear them
- Bring your own sticks. Playing another instrument? You're welcome too, just bring it with you: we provide the drum kit only.
The rooms also contain a PA system and mixer, but those are reserved for lesson use and exam sittings only, not included with a practice booking. Practice slots are for individual practice.
All rooms are clean, well-maintained, and the same rooms used for our lessons, so you'll already know your way around if you've taken a lesson with us.
How our students use the practice rooms
Your free monthly off-peak slot
Every monthly membership includes at least one free off-peak practice hour per month. Use it. Practising between lessons is the single biggest factor in how fast you progress.
Extra practice hours
Want more than your free slot? Members book additional time at our standard practice-room rates, which are far cheaper than commercial rehearsal studios.
Drum exam preparation
Trinity and Rockschool drum exams happen in our rooms. Booking practice slots in the same room you'll be examined in is one of the best things you can do for exam nerves.
Crash course students
Crash course students can add practice room hours to their package at member rates for the duration of the course.
Run-up to the student concerts
Our twice-yearly student concerts (summer and Christmas) are the highlight of the school year, and the weeks before each show are a brilliant time to book extra practice slots and prepare your material.
A note on the house band
Our in-house Planet drum house band (Peter Bakaja on bass, Vladimir Gilis on guitar and vocals) rehearses in the Crypt twice a year, in the run-up to the summer and Christmas student concerts. They're the band that backs students on stage at every concert.
Student bands and external groups don't rehearse here: the larger rehearsal space is reserved exclusively for the house band's prep work.
Concert rehearsals (where students rehearse their performance pieces with the house band) are included with every membership and are advertised in the weekly student newsletter. Watch your inbox in the weeks before each concert and book a slot when announced.

Practice room access is a member benefit. Every monthly membership includes:
- At least one free off-peak practice hour every month
- Standard hourly rates for additional time

Off-peak: Monday to Friday before 5pm. Peak: Monday to Friday from 5pm, and all day Saturday and Sunday.

How to book
Confirm you're a Planet drum student
Practice rooms are for our students only. If you're not enrolled yet, book a taster lesson and join a membership.
Pay for your slot via PayPal
Use the form below to select your slot duration and pay via PayPal. You can pay for 1, 2 or 4 hours at off-peak or peak rates.
Get in touch to schedule your time
After payment, call us on 020 3417 5793 during office hours (9am–3pm Mon–Fri), or use the contact form, to arrange your actual practice time. We'll confirm your booking within one working day.
Turn up and play
Bring sticks (and earplugs if you've got them, since drums can be loud). The studio team will let you in and show you the room.
