Safeguarding Policy

Our commitment
Planet drum is a place where people of all ages come to make music, and keeping everyone safe while they do matters to us. We are committed to protecting the wellbeing of every child and adult at risk who learns with us, and to providing an environment where students, parents, and teachers all feel secure.
Who this covers
This policy applies to everyone involved in life at the school: our students, both children and adults, their parents and guardians, our teachers, and anyone else who spends time at Planet drum. It reflects our duty of care towards children and towards adults who may be at risk of harm.
Our safeguarding principles
Six principles guide how we protect the people who learn with us:
- Empowerment: We encourage and support people when they are making their own decisions and giving informed consent.
- Prevention: We take steps to prevent harm before it occurs.
- Proportionality: We adopt the least intrusive responses appropriate to an adult at risk or a child in danger.
- Protection: We plan and provide support for those in the greatest need.
- Partnership: The local community plays a role in preventing and detecting abuse, and we draw on its support and help.
- Accountability: We are fully transparent and accountable in how we deliver safeguarding to children and adults at risk.
Our Safeguarding Lead
We have a designated Safeguarding Lead who is responsible for safeguarding across the school. The Safeguarding Lead is the first point of contact for any concern about the welfare of a child or an adult at risk, and makes sure concerns are taken seriously, handled properly, and passed to the right external authority where needed.
Safer recruitment and DBS checks
All of our teachers hold a DBS check. We take care over who teaches at Planet drum, because the people who teach here spend time with children, and parents should feel confident in them.
Keeping lessons safe
Planet drum is a busy place. Several rooms are usually in use for teaching at the same time, with other teachers and students close by and parents waiting in the reception area. Lessons are never held in isolation, and parents and guardians are always welcome to wait in reception while their child has a lesson.
Raising a concern
If you ever have a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child or adult at Planet drum, please tell us. You can raise it with our Safeguarding Lead through the school office:
- Phone: 020 3417 5793
- Email: info@theplanetdrum.co.uk
We will listen, take it seriously, and act.
If a child or adult is in immediate danger, call the emergency services on 999. For advice about a child's safety at any time, you can also contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000.
