Music production lessons in London
One-to-one production tuition in Islington, covering Logic Pro, Ableton Live, BandLab and the practical skills of building real tracks from your laptop.
You don't need a whole studio to make music anymore: a laptop, some software, a pair of headphones, and someone who knows how to use them. Our music production lessons in London are one-to-one, software-agnostic, and built around your actual projects: the tracks you want to make, finished to a standard you'd be happy to release. Studios in Islington, four minutes from Highbury & Islington station.
What you'll learn
Music software fundamentals: Logic Pro, Ableton Live, BandLab, or whichever you're using
Recording and editing audio: guitars, vocals, anything with a mic
Programming drums and synths: MIDI, sample libraries, virtual instruments
Beat making: hip-hop, electronic, pop, lo-fi, drum & bass
Sound design and synthesis: building sounds from scratch
Sampling and chopping: old-school and modern approaches
Mixing: EQ, compression, reverb, delay, sidechain, automation
Mastering for streaming: loudness, headroom, getting your tracks ready for Spotify
Arrangement and song structure: taking a 16-bar loop and turning it into a song
Workflow: the fundamental skill that separates finished tracks from a hard drive full of half-ideas
Music production lessons for every level
Complete beginners
You don't need to know what a compressor does. You don't even need to have opened music software (a digital audio workstation). Your tutor will start you with a real, simple project, usually a beat you'd want to listen to, and build the technical concepts from there.
Intermediate producers
If you've been making tracks for a while but your mixes sound muddy, your beats feel flat, or you can't finish anything, this is where one-to-one teaching pays for itself fast. We'll listen to your work, diagnose what's actually wrong, and fix it.
Specific goals
Want to mix your own band's EP? Want to learn Ableton specifically? Want to start releasing on streaming? Want to score a short film? Tell us what you want, and we'll match you to the right tutor.
Children and teens
Music production is a great creative outlet for kids who love music but find it hard to commit to learning an instrument. BandLab is free, browser-based and works on any laptop or tablet, so we'll get them making tracks within their first session.
Bring your own setup, or use ours
You can work on your own laptop in our studios (we have audio interfaces, monitors, MIDI controllers, mics and headphones for you to use), or you can use our setup entirely. Whichever gets you producing faster.
How to start
1. Book a production taster
£27 for children, £49 for adults. One 1-to-1 with the tutor who'd teach you ongoing.
2. Pick a membership
Adult or shared. Free practice room included: bring your laptop and headphones for hours of focused work.
3. Make tracks
You'll leave with finished, mixed projects you can play to people.
Who teaches music production at Planet drum
Our music production teaching is led by experienced tutors who are working musicians, composers, and recording professionals.

Filippo Galli
Our music production teaching is led by Filippo Galli, an experienced music producer who has been teaching creative audio tech and music software at Planet drum since 2017. He completed a postgraduate degree in East London and now works as a recording artist, producer and session musician across a wide range of styles. This extensive studio and production expertise is backed by a lifelong background in rhythm: Filippo started playing drums at the age of six and performs with live acts including Flying Tailor and Fjokra.
He brings a drummer's ear for rhythm and arrangement to production teaching. This is a real advantage, because so much of what makes a track work is rhythmic feel rather than just sound design. He teaches across BandLab and Logic Pro, depending on where you are in your journey, and he's equally comfortable starting from absolute scratch or refining advanced workflow.
